Here are five of the best herbs to try out this flu season. Different remedies work for different body / blood types, but all of these have a long history of safe and promising use.
Astragalus- This herb helps to build up the immune system, making it less likely that you will contract the flu. 250 to 500 mg in the morning three times a week during flu season.
Ginseng- A study found that ginseng (Korean red ginseng) can help treat and prevent influenza and respiratory syncytial virus, a virus that infects the lungs and breathing passages.
Elderberry- A potent overall immune system booster that’s been said to be capable of preventing the flu virus from attaching to our cells. It can be found as homemade, or pre-made syrup. Take 15 ml of elderberry syrup four times a day during the flu season.
Echinacea- While the science isn’t as strong behind Echinacea and the flu as some others, this is one of the best immune boosters out there, and well worth taking if you’re prone to getting sick.
Garlic- Just because it’s cheap and plentiful doesn’t mean it’s anything less than devastatingly effective. Garlic is well known as one of the most potent natural antibiotics out there. Some have even begun using it in soups and such with anywhere from 10-50 garlic cloves to knock out viral infections at the first sign.
Disclaimer: These herbs will only help as much as you are willing to help yourself stay well. That means eating as clean as you can, getting 6-8 hours of sleep each night, avoiding sugar, and have a plan for stress management.
