Well February is almost over, and spring is just around the corner! Time to start thinking about gardening, flowers, working outside and Allergies. With all the wonderful rain we have had, this ought to be a great year for blooming plants and flying pollens. So what can you do to plan ahead for possible allergies? (If your answer was start taking Claritin…wrong answer.) First you should start with 1-2 tsp. of local honey a day to introduce the pollens into your body. Next make sure you are fully hydrated every day so that your nasal membranes and eyes stay moist, and not irritated or inflamed. Wash your sinuses every day during the Spring, especially after being outside. When you use nasal sprays and antihistamines, they dry out your eyes and nose making you even more susceptible to further allergies especially if your nasal membranes start cracking. Eat a good diet, trying to leave out the foods you are to avoid. When you eat poorly your body has no resistance left to fight off the pollens. If you do all these things your allergies will be much more manageable. You most likely will have a day or two of itchy eyes, nose and sneezing, but that is just your immune system hard at work. If the symptoms become unmanageable, you can try using a homeopathic remedy made with pollens from this area to desensitize you, or use specific supplements that aid your body with allergies, or try some N.E.A.T treatments to eliminate your allergies. As a last resort you can have a kenalog shot which usually decreases serious allergy symptoms immensely. I can offer you any of the supplements or services mentioned so come see me if you should start to have problems.
